CAUSES OF DROPOUT OF CHILDREN AT PRIMARY LEVEL EDUCATION IN TEHSIL KOT CHUTTA DISTRICT DERA GHAZI KHAN

Abstract

Primary education provides the basis for higher education, but the productivity of education system has decreased due to high dropout rate at primary level. In order to find out the possible factors that contribute to the problem of dropout, a quantitative research was conducted in Tehsil Kot Chutta, District Dera Ghazi.Khan. The total sample consisted of 120 and students, teachers and parents were target population. For each category sample size was 40. According to the Children the main causes of dropout were poverty, 72.5% children said to greater extent, 12.5% said to some extent and 15% said that not at all. According to the parents 52.5% said to greater extent, 32.5% said to some extent and 15% said that not at all. According to teachers 65% said to greater extent, 30% said to some extent and 5% said that not at all. Lack of interest in study. 45% children said to greater extent, 32.5% said to some extent and 22.5% said that not at all.70% parents said to greater extent, 30% said to some extent and 0% said that not at all. 62.5% teachers said to greater extent, 30% said to some extent and 7.5% said that not at all The researcher concluded that earn money, household work, helped in agriculture, illiteracy and unawareness of parents about the importance of education, large family size, authoritative parents, joint family system, harsh treatment and corporal punishment of teacher’s, a, lack of interest in study, child labor and economic reasons these all are the major reasons of dropout.
