Abstract: | Bio nanotechnology is basically the synthesis of nanoparticles by reacting plant material with different salts, characterizing them and finding out their potential applications and their role at specific location and at specific level. The objective of the current study is the elucidation of phytoxicity of silicon dioxide nanoparticles in Oryza sativa. Green synthesis of silicon dioxide nanoparticles was done by using aqueous extract of Olea europea leaves (olive tree). Root and shoot morphology, biomass attributes, histochemical analysis, Evan’s blue staining and Enzymes assays have been examined. Germination rate was likely to be same for all concentrations (i.e. zero ppm, 5 ppm, 50 ppm and 100 ppm). Significant phytotoxicity of silicon dioxide nanoparticles have been observed on Oryza sativa at the concentration of 50 ppm and 100 ppm. Moreover, Noticeable detection of superoxides (via NBT assay) and cell death(via Evan’s blue staining) was also observed at same concentration. In addition, decrease in the activity of catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) was also observed (via spectrophotometry) in this finding. The noticeable decrease in the activity of CAT (at 50 ppm) and POD (at 100 ppm) was observed. Overall in this study, SIO2 nanoparticles showed phytotoxic effects on Oryza sativa in a concentration dependent manner. |
