Abstract: Microstrip antenna is one of the most important antenna in the field of microwave engineering. The field pattern of a microstrip line placed at the top of a grounded bi-isotropic substrate has beed studied. The vector potentials for right and left circularly polarized fields are used to compute electric and magnetic fields. The fields inside and outside the bi-isotropic substrate have been expanded in terms of unknown cofficients using spectral domain approach. These unknown cofficients are found from the boundary conditions of electric and magnetic fields at the interface of substrate. The far zone fields are calculated asymptotically using stationary phase method. Some applications of microstrip antenna have also been discussed.
