PROBLEMS FACED BY THE ELDERS AT ED HI OLD AGE HOME ISLAMABAD

Abstract

The preset research was conducted in Edhi Center Islamabad to investigate institutiona! care of old age p eople. Research questions were formulated to assess participants ' basic needs while living in old age institutions and their experiences. The sample was comprised of 20 old age people including male and female. Qualitative research design was used. In-depth interviews were conducted to investigate the experiences of old age people about their life. Content analysis was done to see the patterns of experiences. It was revealed with the help of interviews that participants were experiencing lot of emotional and psychological problems in addition to the basic necessities related issues. Some people were satisfied with their standards of living, medical and nutrition facilities but some were disappointed by the care provided by Edhi Old Home in Islamabad. Research has important implication for old age people living in institutional care.
