Abstract: | The current study deals with the exploration of the drug patterns, exposure to drugs and the motivations to quit drug addiction. The study aims at exploring the motivational factors of those addicts who are currently seeking treatment in rehabilitation centres. It also endeavours to find out why and under which circumstances an individual consume drugs and how or she manages to take the decision of quitting on drugs. Additionally, what factors come into play while motivating a person either in initiating or quitting drugs. The researcher used intrinsic and extrinsic theory to contextualize the finding on theoretical grounds for the motivations that pushes an individual to quit addiction. It involves all those facets of life which plays a vital role in shaping one 's behaviour. The researcher conducted a qualitative research to study the subject in a comprehensive way. A sample of 17 respondents was interviewed in both Islamabad and Kahuta. Findings of the study suggest that peer pressure family stability and emotional attachments playa vital in role in both exposing to drugs and directing towards quitting behaviour. Their presence cannot be ignored. It is concluded that the self-motivated drug addicts are more likely to be successful in quitting drugs as compared to those who are admitted into treatment programs by external factors. |
