"2-D INTERPRETATION OF SEISMIC LINE 861-W-4C OF MARl AREA"

Abstract

The given area is part of the Central Indus Basin with lot of oil and gas discoveries. Formations like Habib Rahi Limestone and Lower Goru show the good reservoir characteristics. The gas was first discovered in Mari in 1957 and the survey was done by Esso Eastern Inc (EEl). Later on this area was also identified and app lied by OGDCL in 1986. Sui Main Limestone and Pjrkoh Member of Eocene age are the latest discoveries. Also the study area lies in the extensional regime with normal faults making horst and graben geometries favorable for the accumulation of hydrocarbons. Interpretive results also confirm the trend of these normal faults as shown in the time section, depth section, time co ntour maps and depth contour maps. Velocity variations are mild to moderate as also indicated by the iso-ve locity map. The promising zones of 10 to 15 milli seconds were present in the northwest of the study area at the leve l of Sui Main Limestone. There is requirement of 3D survey for detailed delineation of prospects at this paJ1icular level.
