Abstract: | The present study investigated the relationship between personality traits and different dimensions of burnout among public university teachers. Moreover the impact of demographic variables such as age, experience and education, on burnout was also explored. The sample of study consisted of 40 male university teachers from different public universities of Islamabad. In order to assess personality traits klini klarker Personality Inventmy (klkl) developed by Saucier (1994) was used. Burnout was assessed by Maslach Burnout Inventmy-kJBI (Maslach et a!. , 1996). MBI comprises of three subscales namely emotional exhaustion having 9 items, depersonalization having 5 items and personal accomplishment having 8 items. klini Marker Personality Inventory comprises of five subscales namely extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, intellect or openness, each having 8 items. The results indicated that personality trait of extraversion was positively related to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment and total score on burnout. Further results indicated nonsignificant impact of personal variables including age, educational qualification and experience on MBl Findings of the study were also discussed in the light of sociocultural context of teaching profession. |
