Bereavement among disaster affected children

Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating the bereavement among disaster affected children in October 8, 2005 earthquake. A some structured interview schedule .vas developed on the basis of relevant literature and 30 children were interviewed. The data were collected from the d(tferent affected areas. The sample consisted of 30 individuals (15 middle childhood and 15 early adolescent:;). Qualitative analysis of the interviews was carried out. All participants were takes from different areas, schools, of affected areas. lvluzaffarabad and Bagh. An interview schedule was developed on the basis of literature review. Overall, middle childhood children displayed more physiological and psychological symptoms of bereavenJent. Also, these children had the highest frequency for psychosocial symptoms. The results are discussed in the height of relevant perspectives. F:;ychological interventions are needed to improve the condition of the children affected by disaster.
