dc.description.abstractThe present study is aimed to exam me the relationship between three variables, Perceived parenting style, self-esteem, and academic achievement among university and college students. Sample of the present study consisted of 250 university students (both male and female). The sample was collected from Punjab College Barakaw and Quaid-i- Azam University Islamabad. The age range of the sample was from 15 -30 years. Students were both hostelide and day scholars were taken. Two scales, Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ; Babree, 1997) and Self-Esteem Scale (Rifai, 1999) were used in the study. The academic achievement was measured by asking the percentages of last examination. PAQ is comprised of three subscales; authoritative parenting style, authoritarian parenting style, and permissive parenting style. SelfEsteem Scale (Rifai, 1999) was comprised of four subscales; self-acceptance, selfcompetence, social and physical self.-acceptance, and academic self-competence. The reliability of the instruments were found to be satisfactory. The a = .85 for the selfesteem scale and PA.Q a =.69. Con'elation and t-test were computed to see the relationship and differences between the two groups. The results of the study were analyzed by PSS. Result showed that there is a positive relationship between authoritative parenting style and pennissive parenting style and self-esteem. Result also showed the negative relationship between authOlitarian parenting style and selfesteem. Implication, suggestions and limitations for further researches have also been discussed.en_US
