Title: Emotional Maturity, Social Competence, and Academic Achievement Among Working and Nonworking University Students

Abstract: Present study aimed to explore the relationship of emotional maturity, social competence, and academic achievement and the impact of demographic variables on study variables among university students as well as among working and nonworking students di scretely. Sample comprised of students from different universities of Islamabad (N = 298), working students (N = 148) and nonworking students (N = ISO) with age range 18 to 35 years. Emotional maturity, social competence, and academic achievement were measured through Emotional Maturity Scale (Singh & Bhargava, 1990; Ishfaq, 201 4), Social Competence Scale (Shahzad, 2001) and Demographic Sheet respectively. Results indicated that the relationship of emotional maturity was positive with social competence among university students, as well as among working and nonworking students. The relationship of emotional maturity was positive with academic achievement among university students but nonsignifcant among working and nonworking students. The relationship of social competence was nonsignificant with academic achievement among university students and nonworking students, but the relationship was significant among working students. The result of study variables with demographic variables showed that the emotional maturity and social competence was higher among working students as compared to nonworking students. While nonsignificant gender difference was shown on the emotional maturity and social competence" whereas academic achievement was found to be higher among female shldents as compared to male students among university , students and working students, no gender differences were significant among nonworking students.
