COMPUTERIZED INVENTORY CONTROL SYSTEM FOR UTILITY STORES CORPORATION OF PAKISTAN LTD

Abstract

Commerce is one of the areas into which computer is permeating most rapidly. The present far sighted management of Utility Stores Corporation, realizing its enormous benefits, requested the Department of Computer Sciences, Quaid- i - Azam University to help them in computerization of various bossible areas of their business activity. This study is related to computerization of the most important part of the acti vi ty, 'Inventory Control'. The entire work has been presented in five chapters augment ed by few appendices. Chapter I gives a bird's eye view of the USC organizational structure and its computerization needs. Chapter 2 contains the general concepts about the inventory control. Chapter 3 describes the presently being practiced manual system and its drawbacks. Chapter 4 deals with the technical details of the proposed system including ' inpu t' , ' file designing ', ! vi 'programmi ng summary' ., and 'out put'. The advantages of the proposed computerized sys tem have also been brought out in this chapter. Last chapter concerns the system conversion. The 'proposed approach ' along with reasons for its s election has been given after describing various possible conversion strategies. The working of the system has also been very precisely narrated.
