RECENT SEISMIC ACTIVITY IN NFELUM VALLEY, OCTOBER 8,2005, MUZAFt-ARABAD EARTHQUAKE

Abstract

Seismology is an extreme of the whole spectrum of Earth sciences. People have been facing the great threat of earthquakes since centuries. Developments have been made to clear the idea of earthquakes scientifica lly as well as superstitiously. It's not the earthquake which kills the people but it is structure damage responsible for thousands of deaths. Well said by a French seismologist "Best way to conquer nature is to obey her". The thesis covers the fundamental aspects about the earthquake seismology and related Quantitative seismology, especially phenomena of wave propagation in Earth structure .Focal mechanism solutions have been sorted out to deliver a clear picture of the active faults and nature of the stresses that have been accumulating in that zone. Seismicity Plot reveals the distribution of events in that zone. After the hlstcrlc event of the 8th October, 2005 the idea to study the earth quake seismology rushed into my mind . i received a support and guidance from start to end from Dr. fVionaLis8 emU several agencies like Geological Survey of Pakistan, from Dr. Tehseen Ullah Khan, Earth Quake Seismological centre under supervision of Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan where I studied the mathematical and computational analysis of earth quakes and instrumentation. in this regard I am thankful i:o Prof.Dr.Khalid Rashid. Critical readings of all parts of my thesis are carried by Dr.MonaLisa and Dr.Khawaja Azam Ali.
