dc.description.abstract | Five azo functionalized monomers (three with diazo functionality and two with monoazo functionality) were synthesized successfully using diazotization coupling reaction. The synthesized monomers were characterized by some physical properties, FT -IR, NMR and uv-visible spectroscopic analysis. The diols used were: 4,4' -Bis (4-azo-I-hydroxy naphthyl) biphenyl methane,4,4'-Bis(4-azo- I -hydroxyphenyl) biphenyl methane, 4,4'Bis (4-azo-I -hydroxybiphenylphenyl) biphenyl methane, 4,4-(( 4-hydroxyphenyl) diazenyl) biphenyl- I -ol and4-4( (4-hydroxyphenyl) diazenyl) naphthalen- l -ol. Diacids used were terephthaloylchloride, isophthaloyl chloride, trans-azobenzene-4,4' -dicarbonyl chloride and ferrocenedicarboxylic acid chloride. Twentyazo chromophore functionalized polyesters have been synthesized successfully by reacting five different diols with four different diacids chlorides by low temperature solution polycondensation method which required THF as a solvent and trimethylamine to aid the polymerization reaction. FT -IR was used to confirm the chain structure of the polyn1ers and change in physicochemical properties ofthe synthesized polymer were studied by solubility, UV -Visible spectroscopic analysis, inherent viscosities, thermal analysis and conductivity measurements. | en_US |
