Abstract: | Islamic teachings and its art are the prominent fastest nourishing features in the world. As the addition of Muslim population after the spread of Islam increase the demand for Islamic buildings such as Islamic centers and mosques. Mosques play a vital role in Islam and in the life of a Muslim. Chiniot is also a prominent city with a treasure of Muslim architecture such as mosques and tombs etc. Its significance can be measured by noticing the number of historical sites in it, researcher topic of interest is also one of them. Being a student of archaeology researcher was always curious to explore the different aspects of Muslims architecture, so the physical appearance of Shahi mosque Chiniot attracted the researcher to research on its art and architecture, keeping number of questions in mind like who laid its base, what was the influence, from where the art is inspired of and what are the exact measurements researcher decided to study on it. Floral art, geometric patterns, floral motifs with fresco paintings, beautiful stone work and mesmerizing mosaic work as well as the wood work is noticeable. Splendid façade, minarets, onion like domes, prayer chamber, staircases, ablution tank and deliciated arcades and niches are some outstanding outcomes of the architect. |
