Abstract: | This study tries an attempt to compare the US Presidency and Doctrine o f il ayat~e Faqih in Iran. For the last severa l decades. the political system o f US under the executive authority of US has been considered as a beacon of democracy_ There [lfC several factors which contributed towards US political system, as standard of democracy for the industrialist States around the globe. Popular sove reignty became the central factor in addition with the Electoral College system, Central Executi ve of the Federalist United States. And several constitutiona l constraints on the central executive authority made it even more attracti ve to others State around the World. He can assume power for two consecutive terms. [-Ie also faces the constitutional check and balances from the others institution like congress and j udiciary. He is elected indirectl y through Electoral Coll ege system, which is comprised of the representative of Upper and Lower House. And based on these peculiar characters it became a standard of democracy. Wh il e Vilayet e faqih in Iran is a central and executive authority. He assumed power through ind irect election by an Electoral Coll ege system mentioned in the constitutional framework. The Assembly of Ex perts has de legated a task of electing the Vi layet c Faqih. The Assembl y of Experts has also delegated the power to remove the Vilayet e Faqih. if found an act which is aga inst the national interest ur Islamic principles. But with all these fa ctors of election and check and balances in the Doctrine of Vilaya l" ~e~F aqih . it has been critiqued severely by scholars and Statesmen as authoritarian. The stud y would focu s on reasons based on which it has been critiqued as an authoritarian structure. And the study would also in vestigat"e that tip to extent the critiques are true. |
