Abstract: | Since the end of the Second World War there has been an enormous expansion of regional organisations. The vast majority of these groupings is either based on economic interests or social and ethnic/religious affinities. Some are formed purely on geographical considerations. Security oriented organisations were only five in number i.e. NATO, Warsaw Pact, CENTO, SEATO, and ANZUS. Of the five, three have already been dissolved, ANZUS is in serious trouble and NATO is facing the complexity of readjustment. GCC,a security based organisation/ ormed in 1981, has, transformed itself into more of an economic union. |
