Abstract: | This is a comparative study aimed to investigate job satisfaction among married and unmarried women teachers. The study also focused on assessing the impact of demographic variables including age and work experience on teacher' job satisfaction. A sample of 80 post graduate level teachers (40 unmarried and 40 married) was selected from different government post graduate colleges and universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad cities. Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) developed by Wysocki & Kromm (1986) was used to measure teachers' job satisfaction. Job satisfaction scale measures job satisfaction on the basis of different subscales namely work, supervisor, coworker, promotion and ,pay The reliability analysis revealed that alpha reliability coefficient of JSS (r = 0.97) is highly satisfactory. The validity analysis JSS is indicating the satisfactory construct validity of the measure. Findings highlighted that unmarried teachers showed high scores on total score of Job Satisfaction Scale and on subscales of Supervisor, Promotion and Pay compared to their married counterparts. However subscale of Work and Coworker showed no significant differences between married and unmarried women teachers. Further, the impact of demographic variables including age and work experience showed no significant differences on the variable of the study. Findings revealed that there were non-significant differences between younger married and unmarried teachers. Conversely, findings highlighted that older unmarried teacher score significantly high on total score of Job Satisfaction Scale and on subscales of Promotion and Pay compared to their married counterparts. On the contrary, subscales of Work, Supervisors and Coworkers showed no significant differences between older married and unmarried teachers. The findings of the study were also interpreted in terms of socia-cultural aspect of teaching profession in Pakistan. |
