Abstract: | Th e aim of th e present study was to examine the relationship between locus of control and self-esteem among physically disabled and to see the gender differences on both scales among physically disabled. The hypotheses were Physically disabLed scoring high on external loclls of control will score Iowan self-esteem scale ([s compared to physico !!y disubled scoring high on internet! locus of control. phnicoll\' disabled girls will have higher external locus of control as compared to bovs and physically disabled girls will have lower self-esteem as compared to boys. Sample consisted of 50 disabled, including 25 males and 25 female. Age of the sample ranged between 15-25 years. For the meaSllrement of locus of control, Rotter's (1966) Internal External Locus of COlltrol Scale was used. Self-esteem was measured by using Riffai 's (J 999) Self-Esteell/ scule {hut II/ easured self-esteell/ all foul' dill/ ens ions nUll/ ely Sel) Acceptance, Self Competence, Physical and social Acceptance, and Academic Self Competence .. The results revealed non significant relationship between external 10clIS of control and self-esteem except on a subscale of self-esteem named academic self competence. Gender differences were found on self esteem scale but not on locus of control scale. Females were reported to have lower self-esteem as compared to maLes. These three \'([riables hove never been used togeth er before and us th e sample CO nlul/l.) only 50 disabled so this research cannot be generalized. Moreover there is a scope for further research in this area. |
