Abstract: | This study set out to measuring the impact of place of delivery on neonatal mortality and identifies the factors which having strong influence on neonatal mortality in Pakistan. Data from the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS), 2012-13 were used. The study comprise a sample of 4,466 children who were born to women aged 15-49 years during the period of two years preceding the survey were involved during the study. The specific objectives of this study were; to describe the mothers’ background characteristics, to establish the relationship between mothers’ background variables and neonatal mortality and to make recommendations for neonatal centred health interventions to improve neonatal survivorship in Pakistan. Neonatal mortality was used as dependent variable in the study. This variable was predicted by type of place of residence, region of residence, level of education, household wealth status, place of delivery, employment status, and birth order, size of the child at birth, and mother’s age at birth as independent variables. The independent variables were assumed to work through intermediate variables which include; sex of the child, place of delivery, birth order and size of the child at birth. The Microsoft Excel and STATA software were used for the analysis of the data. Chapter one of this study is an overview of the problem at global to the area specific (Pakistan) level; the statement of the problem, objectives and hypothesis of the study. The bi-variate analysis was conducted at 5% level of significance to establish the relationship between mother’s, child and access to health facility characteristics with neonatal mortalit |
