Abstract: | Background: The frequency of third molar extraction, commonly known as wisdom tooth removal, different among populations and is influenced by several factors. These factors or determinants can include age, dental health, tooth impaction, oral hygiene practices, and individual anatomical variations. Understanding these factors are important for assessing the frequency and necessity of third molar extractions in swat KPK. Studying these factors helps us understand how often wisdom teeth are removed and why. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in swat KPK to determine the frequency and determinants of third molar extraction. Total 227 patients included in the study. Data was collected in dental clinics of swat KPK. All patients were the resident of swat KPK. Data was collected through structured questionnaire from the patients after proper inform consent was obtained from each patient. Results: Among 227 the female participants were 103(45.4%) and 124(54.6%) are male. Among these 227 patient 58(25.55%) patients extract their third molar with (P valve=.426). In these 58 patients 30(51.72%) are male and 28(49.28%) are female with (P valve=.648). The reason of third molar extraction are 30(51.72%) patients extract their third molar due to impaction, 12(20.68%) patients extract their third molar due to infection, 5(8.6%) patients p-value extract their molar due to pain, 10(17.24%) patients extract their third molar due to crossly carious, and 1(1.72%) patient extract their third molar due to crowding. However, the number of extractions is higher in patient with age among 15-30 years (48.3%) patients extract their third molar with (P valve=.002). Conclusion: The obtained result suggest almost that no significant association are found between third molar extractions and sociodemographic data. Only one sociodemographic variable age has significant association with third molar extraction. The number of iv extractions is higher in-patient age between 15-30 years (48.3%) with (P valve=.002). However, the most common reason of third molar extraction is impaction (51.72%). The obtained result suggests that treatment plan for each patient with third molar complication should be individualize and adjusted for each case. Key words: Determinants, Extraction, grossly carious, Impacted, Third molar. |
