Abstract: 28 genera and more than 700 number of species are present in the family Oleaceae. Out of these 28 genera, one genus Hesperelaea is currently considered an extinct genera (Green, 2004). The tribe Oleeae is divided into four subtribes including Oleinae which is further divided into more than 10 genera. (Wallander and Albert, 2000). On the basis of morphological characters, more than 30 species have been placed in genus Olea. (Green, 2002). Jasminum sambac and Jasminum grandifiorum are cultivated to serve ornamental purposes. Similarly, species of genera Syringa, Ligustrum and Forsythia are also cultivated to serve the same purpose. Olea europea is a very ecofriendly species, and it has been introduced into many new countries like New Zealand and Australia where it has adapted itself according to native conditions and become naturalized (Green, 2002; Besnard et aI., 2007)
