Abstract: | New series of novel homoleptic and heteroleptic Cd (II) carboxylates were synthesized and characterized by using FT-IR, multinuclear NMR ('H and 13C-NMR) spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The ligands used were cyclopropane carboxylic acid and cyclopentane carboxylic acid. For the heteroleptic complexes N -donor ligands (1,10- phenanthroline, 2,2'-bipyridine and 2,9-dimethyl-l,10-phenanthroline) were added along with the sodium salt of ligand. Spectroscopic data of the synthesized complexes manifest the disappearance of -OH band in the spectra of complexes in comparison with the spectra of the free ligands, which confirmed the complex formation. The nature of complex-DNA interaction and the effect of attachment of heteroligand on binding strength of the complexes were studied through UV-Visible spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The results showed mixed mode of binding i.e, intercalation and groove binding. The DNA binding constants (Kb) and Gibb's free energy changes (~G) were calculated for these complexes. Purpose of this study was to design effective drugs with less harmful effects which could be beneficial for mankind. |
