AN OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE COVERAGE OF EHSAS PAROGRAM: A CASE STUDY OF DISTRICT SWABI

Abstract

Poverty is a challenging social issue across the world, in particular for the developing countries. Poverty alleviation is one of the main goals of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Pakistan is also running various programs in tius regard, including Ehsaas program. In thls research work we want to know the efficiency of Ehsaas Program investigating weather, all poor families are en rolled in Ehsaas Kafaalat program. Thls work is a case study for district swabi, KPK. The data has been collected randomly th1"Ough questio1111aire from seven different villages in district swa bi. The study found from descriptive analysis that 74 percent of the poor fami lies who's live be low the poverty line are not enrolled in Ehsaas Kafaalat program while 26 percent families are enrolled in Ehsaas Kafaalat Program. Furthem10re, the Logit model for the binary outcome is employed in thls study. The estimates of logistic regression explain that the fanlily size measure by fanlily member and disability of the fanlily member have positive and significant role in en rollment of Ehsaas Kafaalat program whlle fanuly income measured by Pakistan rupees and years of education of fanlily head is negatively and significantly affect enrollment of Ehsaas Kafaalat Program. The estimates also show that age is negatively and insignificantly in thls study affect the EP. To sum up the whole discussion we get from thls study tl1at there are a large num ber of poor families are not enrolled in Ehsaas Kafaalat Program. Therefore, the research work recommends that gover11111ent needs to enhance the coverage of Ehsaas Kafaalat Program to the most deserving and needy families especially to the widows. It is also recommends that govern ment needs to implement transparency while recognizing poor fanlilies. And lastly government needs to create some technical platform to educate the poor peoples.
