Abstract: The research work includes the synthesis and characterization of di- and triorganotin(IV) carboxylates by the reaction of di- and triorganotin(IV) oxides or chlorides with (Z)-3-(4-ethylphenyl)-2-methylacrylic acid or sodium(z)-3-(4- ethylphenyl)-2-methylacrylate in dry toluene under reflux for 6-8 h. The general molecular formulae of the synthesized compounds are R3SnLl R2SnL2 where R = Me, nBu and octyl. The coordination mode of the ligand and geometry of the complexes in solid and solution states were made by different analytical techniques such as FT-IR , multinuclear (IH and 13C) NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. These results showed that the ligand is coordinated to the Sn atom via COO moiety. The triorganotin(IV) carboxylates demonstrate polymeric trigonal bipyrimidal geometry in solid state and a monomeric tetrahedral structure in solution. The diorganotin(IV) carboxylates show a distorted octahedral geometry in solid state as well as in solution. The X-ray crystallographic studies of dimethyl carboxylate showed that it IS distannoxanes. The synthesized complexes were checked against the inhibition of alkaline phosphatase but were found inactive.
