Title: THE WORKS OF GEBER
Authors: RUSSELL, RICHARD
Keywords: Shaikh Ikram Collection
Issue Date: 1928
Publisher: London: J. M. Dent & Sons
Abstract: Tue Latin works which pass under the name of Geber have long been considered the most important of mediaeval chemical treatises. They were printed several times during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and were translated into French, German and English. The English translation was published in 1678, and is here reprinted with the addition of figures taken from the Latin edition published at Berne in 1545. The Introduction which follows is intended for the general reader interested in the history of science, and may help to throw into relief some of the principal features of Geber’s work and thought. The story of alchemy has a perennial fascination, and no more delightful avenue to the study of the Divine Art than that which Geber provides for us could be desired.
