Abstract: | A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions at different locations. Wireless sensor networks are infrastructure less networks which are prone to routing attacks. A malicious node tries to attract most of the network traffic and sabotage the network. This research has presented a solution based on destination sequence number for the detection of malicious node. When a source node receives multiple route replies, it detects the presence of a malicious node. This is because only destination node in AODV-MDR is allowed to reply for a route request. AODV(Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) is generally used for ad-hoc networks but due to its widespread use, now it is also used for wireless sensor networks .AODV is reactive routing protocol and paths are established only on-demand. We have modified AODV route discovery phase and highlighted the weakness in AODV. In AODV route discovery, a malicious node sends route reply(RREP) immediately as it received route request(RREQ) and show that it has a fresh enough route to the destination by sending a very high randomly generated destination sequence number. A source will establish a route through the malicious node and communication starts with the malicious node. Our focus is on detection and removal of a single malicious node in a wireless sensor network. It is implementing using Ad hoc on Demand Distance Vector-Malicious Node Detection and Removal (AODV-MDR) routing protocol which is the modified version of the Tiny AODV protocol. |
