Abstract: | The word agriculture in English has been bOlTowed fl .. om Latin word agricultura the word is the combination of two different words fromager and cultura, ji-ingier means a field and cultura means cultivation. Agriculture is called the cultivation of fields for growing different food crops, plants and herbs for subsistence. Agriculture has a key role in the development of human civilization. The history of agriculture dates back thousands of years and its development has been driven and defined by greatly different climates, cultures and technologies. However all fanning generally relies on techniques to expand and maintain the lands that are suitab le for cultivation. The agriculture has played a 'major role in human history because all the societies of the world adopt agriculture for food crops to sustain the living of human beings and animals. Water is very basic need for all human being as it is the basic requirement for agri culture so different civilizations of the world have used water for different purposes> for irrigation. liTigation is an artificial application of water to lands used to assist the growing of crops protects plants against frost and increases the agricultural productivity. liTigation is an old age art that had been followed for the development of ilTigation. l1Tigation is well documented tlu'oughout the history of mankind; canal irrigation has also its history of centuries ago. |
